Sinn Féin Mid Tyrone representative Catherine Kelly has welcomed the agreement of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to provide match funding totalling £50,000 for a 'village renewal scheme' set to benefit Carrickmore.

Speaking after the council agreed to the match funding last Wednesday Kelly said: "The proposed project headlined by Carrickmore Regeneration Committee / Techno Tyrone Ltd envisages a project to develop a walkway in Carrickmore, linking the two sections of the walkway that were completed using previous funding. Additional gateway features into Carrickmore are also to be constructed.

"With the overall cost of the project estimated to be £200,000 the Rural Development Programme will fund £150,000 with match funding of up to £50,000 agreed at Council. This is a significant and welcome investment into the local community.

"I welcome this agreement by the Council which will enable to Carrickmore project to be progressed, in tandem with the Council. I know that the previous funding was invested wisely in the construction of a walkway in the area as well as gateway features welcoming people into Carrickmore. Given the positive reaction to these installations I know the plans to extend this scheme is something that will be welcomed.CRÍOCH
