Mc Aleer welcomes restoration of Camlough Road bridge

West Tyrone MLA Declan Mc Aleer has welcomed the restoration of the Camlough Road bridge which was washed away by the flash flood in August.

Mr Mc Aleer said "The flood we witnessed on 22nd and 23rd August was on an unprecedented scale and devastated parts of the north west and mid Tyrone.

"I was present on Camlough Road on the night it happened and was astounded to see the bridge washing away right in front of my eyes. Thankfully no one was hurt or injured as a result of the destruction.

"The Camlough Road is an extremely busy route and for the 6 months that the bridge was out of action it created a lot of inconvenience for motorists, walkers and for farmers whose land straddle both sides of the road.

"During this time I have been lobbying TransportNI locally and the Department of Infrastructure Permanent Secretary to bid for additional funds from October monitoring to deal with the damage.

"Thankfully, the funds were made available and even though TransportNI experienced a few unforeseen delays that set back the timescale of the project I wish to give them and the contractor full credit for a job well done".
