Mid Tyrone Sinn Féin Councillor Barry McNally has welcomed the positive response from the Department for Infrastructure Rivers Section (Omagh Area) to representations he made that Carrickmore be considered for a sandbag collection facility to be utilised by local people as a flood protection measure.

He said,

"In recent times Carrickmore and the wider Mid Tyrone area has experienced an increase in the severity and frequency of flooding, of homes and property and following recent severe weather events and following up on representations from local people I wrote to DFI Rivers on the 18 October asking that Carrickmore be considered for a sandbag collection facility

"I also did so, based in the knowledge that in a number of other areas a locked cabinet exists and in times of flooding people arrive and help themselves to sandbags via a passcode-which local people know.

"I therefore welcome confirmation in the response I have now received that following the North West flood events on the 22/23 of August 2017 DfI Rivers (Omagh Area) is currently considering if additional sandbag stores could be utilized and that Carrickmore will be included in this process. ENDS
