Published: 17 June, 2016

Derg Sinn Féin Councillor Ruairi McHugh has said he is delighted to have confirmation from Transport NI that re-surfacing works to the roadway in Ferguson Crescent, Castlederg, are scheduled to begin during the 2016-17 period of Transport NI work schedule. Speaking after the Environment and Regeneration Committee meeting of Derry and Strabane Council where the Western Divisional Manager Conor Loughrey presented his report Councillor Ruairi Mc Hugh said

' Ferguson Crescent has been an issue, amongst others, that I have been lobbying Transport NI on for some time and it has been a constant issue raised by business owners and residents of the Ferguson Crescent area to myself on a regular basis. It's particularly welcome as in recent times the surface of this stretch of road has been falling into disrepair especially during the winter time when dangerous potholes tended to appear. The footways have also become dilapidated so I'm also pleased to have confirmation that there will also be a scheme carried out to improve footpaths along the road as well.

'Although not every issue I have been lobbying on has been confirmed for action this time around there are a number of roads contained within the report in and around the Castlederg town and Drumnabey areas that I have responsibility for and this is to be welcomed. I will however, continue to lobby on behalf of the people of this area to have those roads addressed that aren't included this time. I would also commend Transport NI for listening to public representatives and the issues they raise on behalf of constituents.'

Also contained within the report of planned works for the Castlederg/Drumnabey area were resurfacing schemes on the: Strabane,Drumnabey,Listymore,Erganagh,Crew,Spring,Freughlough,Priestsessiagh,Mc Creery's, Scarvagherin and Tievenny roads.
