McCann Calls for Emergency Meeting of Healthcare Committee

Sinn Féin west Tyrone councillor Stephen McCann has called an Emergency meeting of the Healthcare committee of Fermanagh and Omagh District council. His call comes after it emerged that the Western Trust had been underspending on disability services, for reportedly several years. Speaking as he called the emergency meeting on Tuesday evening Cllr McCann said:

"I am seriously disturbed by this revelation that there has been an under-spend of millions of pound per year on disability services over several years. This has put a massive strain on frontline service and certainly the Western Trust need to step up explain how this came about. As well as impacting on frontline services this would also have had an impact on support services such as respite care for families.

"Whilst the Western Trust have said over the past two years the underspend accounts for £8 million, I would welcome the earliest opportunity to challenge their representatives on the figures involved.
