Sinn Féin West Tyrone Councillor Stephen McCann has raised safety concerns after a young schoolboy was knocked down in Fintona on Tuesday morning. The young pupil on his way to board a bus bound for post primary schools in Omagh. Councillor McCann said the young man was knocked down at 8:15am in Fintona Main Street:

"With a lot of pupils gathering for the daily bus journey and a heavy concentration of traffic it is very difficult for motorists and pupils to proceed with care. Unfortunately the boy was knocked down by a car in what was described to me as a 'low impact' collision. However, whilst not seriously injured, the boy was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. It is my understanding that the schoolboy has since been discharged from hospital.

"Obviously our thoughts at this time are with the young man knocked down, as well as the unfortunate driver of the car involved in the incident.

"I would appeal to local motorists to be vigilant, particularly in the early, dark, mornings around Fintona Main Street. I have been in contact with Translink management today in order to come to a more satisfactory arrangement for the daily school pick up in Fintona. The present situation doesn't benefit the pupils or motorists in the area. With a large congregation of pupils gathering and heavy concentration of traffic it presents obvious health and safety issues which I am aiming to address with Translink.
