McDermott calls on dog owners to be vigilant following reports of suspicious activity

Sinn Féin's Grace McDermott has called on dog owners to be vigilant following reports on social media of marks being left outside the homes of dog owners across the Strabane district.

Speaking this week Ms McDermott said,

"There has been a lot of activity on social media this week following reports of bogus callers calling to houses across the Strabane district and identifying households who own dogs by leaving a mark outside the home.

"As of yet there have been no reports of stolen dogs given to the PSNI, however they are not ruling it out as a possible motive.

"I would urge dog owners to be vigilant at this time for any suspicious activity in their area. I would encourage owners to have their dog's micro-chipped and to ensure those already micro-chipped have up to date information on their chip."

"I would also urge people to think twice before leaving a dog tied up outside a shop or alone in a car. This will make them vulnerable and a tempting target for opportunist thieves."
