Tyrone Hoax Device Causes Inconvenience

Published: 6 April, 2015

A hoax device discovered in the Creggan area of Tyrone on Easter Sunday evening caused inconvenience to local people and residents after the Barony Road was closed to traffic for a number of hours on Sunday night and Monday morning according to the councillor for the area, Sinn Féin's Barry McNally.

Cllr McNally had this to say on the incident:

"The alert began late on Sunday evening when the device was discovered between the crossroads of Creggan and Teebane. It is my understanding that the device was small in nature and, therefore, no houses were evacuated. However the alert saw the closure of the main arterial route between Cookstown and Omagh for several hours and proved a serious inconvenience for local people. Whilst I am relieved to learn that this device was a hoax it was, nonetheless, an unwelcome disturbance to local people and businesses over this busy bank holiday period."ENDS
