West Tyrone MLA Declan Mc Aleer has welcomed the announcement from Transport Minister Danny Kennedy that a £265,000 improvement scheme for the B48 Lisnarragh Road between Donemana and Plumbridge is scheduled to begin on Monday 9 February. The scheme is expected to be substantially complete by Tuesday 3rd March. The resurfacing scheme will start close to the junction of the Loughash Road and will extend for around two kilometres towards Donemana. According to Mr Mc Aleer, who sits on the DRD committee "The Lisnarragh Road is a key corridor through the Sperrins linking Counties Derry and Donegal with Mid Tyrone and the Glenelly Valley. "Most people use this road to travel to Altnagelvin for hospital appointments and it is an essential link for rural businesses and tourism in the area. Parts of the road are in need of repair, so I welcome the commencement of work on this particular section. Roads Minister Danny Kennedy said: "The scheme will greatly improve the safety, strength and surface quality of the carriageway of this important route." Whilst the Department's resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, funding for this scheme is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes which is less affected by the current pressures. Work is expected to be substantially complete by Tuesday 3 March. As with all improvements of this type, scheduled dates are subject to favourable weather conditions. TransportNI has carefully planned the works operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience to the public, however, drivers should expect delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area. To help ensure the safety of drivers and contractors, well signposted diversions will be in place on B536 Ligford Road, B72 Liskey Road, A5 Victoria Road and the B49 Berryhill Road.
