West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty has contacted the Minister for Regional Development Danny Kennedy on behalf of the people of West Tyrone who are being hit hard by the disruption to their water supplies urging him to redouble his efforts with NI Water and the unions to find an early resolution to this dispute so that no family is left without access to water.
Speaking today the local MP said,
"For several days now thousands of homes within the West Tyrone constituency have been left without a water supply. This is going on too long.
"This is having a particularly adverse impact on rural areas such as Loughmacrory, Aghyaran, Carrickmore and various others.
"I and other Sinn Féin representatives in the area have been in continuous contact with NI Water to ensure residents were kept up to date with the latest information.
"Along with local volunteers our representatives have been bringing bottled water to dozens of vulnerable people who were effectively trapped in their homes.
"Access to water is one of the most basic human needs.
"The disruption to water services and the hardship caused to the families affected is being compounded by the current harsh weather.
"We need an urgent solution to this dispute so that no family is left without access to water andto ensure that people living in rural communities are not further isolated as a result of the disruption to supply.
"I would urge anyone without a water supply or with disruptions to their services to contact our office so we can assist and contact NI Water on your behalf."
