Boyle concerned about autism diagnosis delays

Published: 18 November, 2014

Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle has expressed concerns about the number of children in the North waiting to be assessed to find out if they have autism.

Speaking after it was reported that 1,300 children are waiting on a diagnosis, Mrs Boyle said;

"I am very concerned about the number of children awaiting diagnosis for the condition.

This delay is very worrying for many parents and carers and the children themselves. I am contacted on a regular basis about this issue.

It is an issue across all health trusts and the trusts must address it as a matter of urgency.

"I have submitted a priority question to newly appointed health minister Jim Wells asking him what action he is taking to alleviate the waiting times and ensure the issue is addressed promptly."
