Sinn Féin delegation meet with Housing Executive officials on Strabane backlog issue

Published: 19 September, 2014

A Sinn Féin delegation met this week with the Chief Executive of the housing executive Mags Lightbody and the Director of Landlord services Gerry Flynn to get an update on the backlog of maintenance work that is outstanding in the Strabane district. They have welcomed confirmation from the Housing Executive that a new contractor has been appointed to take over maintenance works in Strabane, following the termination of their contract with Robinson and Ferry in June.

Speaking after the meeting local MLA Michaela Boyle said,

"I welcome the news that a new contractor has been appointed to take on the backlog of maintenance works in the Strabane district. I have been informed that a plan of action has been put in place to prioritize the large backlog of work in the area within a 4-6 week timeframe. The Housing Executive has given a commitment to provide us with a breakdown of the backlog and a fortnightly report on how things are progressing. They have also given a commitment to contact each affected tenant individually with a view to getting their issues sorted promptly and apologizing for the stress which may have been caused. This has been a very difficult time for all those affected. My party colleagues and I have been following this issue up with the housing executive for a number of months and we hope the backlog can now be resolved in the proposed timeframe."
