Resolution of Bin collections at Garag Hill welcomed- McHugh

Published: 15 September, 2014

Castlederg Sinn Féin Councillor Ruairí Mc Hugh has welcomed the resolution over bin collections at the Garag Hill estate in the town.

Cllr McHugh said

" Because of insurance liability reasons Council bin lorries cannot enter into any estate that remains unadopted by the D.O.E. and this was the case in Garag Hill, therefore residents had to suffer the inconvenience of having to take their bins out to the junction with Lurganboy Road to be collected'

' Thankfully this is no longer the case. I have been lobbying D.O.E. heavily on the issue of adoption of Garag Hill and the resulting complications that flow from this outstanding matter so I am pleased to say that with the D.O.E. having agreed to provide Council with a letter of indemnity, Council bin lorries can now enter into Garag Hill and collect residents' bins from outside their own homes'

On the issue of the adoption of Garag Hill estate Councillor Mc Hugh continued

' Despite previous dates from D.O.E. for the adoption of Garag Hill being surpassed because of delays I have been reliably informed by Private Streets section of the D.O.E. just this week that the estate will be adopted within the month which will be a welcome development for all parties concerned most important of course, the residents of Garag Hill."
