Sinn Féin in the Omagh District has launched an appeal for aid for the stricken children of Gaza. Members of the public can drop clothes and equipment into their office on James Street until the end of next week, Friday 8th August. These will be shipped to Gaza. Speaking at the launch of the week long drive for aid, SF representative Catherine Kelly said 'We have been approached by hundreds of people who are disgusted with the actions of the Israeli army against the civilian population of Gaza. 'The images we are seeing nightly on the TV screens and on social media are heart breaking and people feel so helpless and want to do something. What we have done is link up with Gaza Aid Toys & Clothes Appeal and are opening our office as a collection point. 'For the next week we are asking people to donate items such as clothes, nappies, bottles, dummies, first aid kits, high chairs, push chairs and toys. All of the donated items must be new or unused and adult clothing should not be donated as these will not be allowed through. Cllr Glenn Campbell added 'As a parent myself, I share a sense of sadness and bewilderment at what is happening the children of Gaza and feel a strong need to do something practical. As well as using our office as a drop off base, members of the public can also leave items with their local Councillor in villages and town lands throughout the district. 'I have spoken to many local people who want to do something tangible to help the beleaguered children of Gaza. This initiative we are taking is an opportunity for people to play their part and perhaps make a difference to some child's life. Staying silent or ignoring what is happening is not an option. For a full list of eligible items, please log on to the Omagh Sinn Féin Facebook page or telephone the office on 02882253040'.
