Sinn Féin MEP meets with Strabane Chamber of Commerce

Published: 7 July, 2014

Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson accompanied by Michaela Boyle MLA, Pat Doherty MP and Cllr Jay McCauley, met this week with the Strabane Chamber of Commerce to discuss the funding and support available within the European Parliament and how Europe can benefit the people of the Strabane district.

Speaking after the meeting Martina Anderson said,

"The North is currently "not at the races" when it comes to European funding. We need to make people more aware of opportunities available and assist them in being bold and not being put off by bureaucracy. I recently launched a booklet 'Gateway to EU Funding' with an overview of funding opportunities which can provide people with a better understanding of how EU funding works and how you can apply. There are billions of pounds of funding available to tap into in Europe - it is up to Strabane to come up with big ideas. That is what impresses in Europe".

Welcoming the visit and the MEP's support Sinn Fein MLA Michaela Boyle said,

"Establishing a better relationship with Europe is vital for local groups and businesses to maximise their potential, this visit has provided the local chamber of commerce with a better knowledge of European funding and how it works. Important links and relationships have been made- we intend to work closely with the Chamber of commerce to come up with big ideas which will enable us to secure funding from Europe for the people of the district".
