Strabane Sinn Féin Cllr Brian Mc Mahon Chair of Strabane Town Forum has welcomed the announcement by DSD Minister Nelson Mc Causland that the District is among seven successful applicant areas selected from areas across the north to participate in the Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) pilot programme.

He said,

"This is a positive development which, at the very least, will enable local businesses and traders to work in close partnership with Council over the next 18 months and secure capacity-building support and training through the BID Academy which is a consortium made up of the Mosaic Partnership, Place Solutions and the Association of Town and City Management to help prepare for the establishment of a BID in our area.

"This BID Programme will help build further on the work of Council and the Town Centre Forum to endeavour to attract more visitors to our town centres through ongoing Public Realm improvements and by tackling dereliction and allows stake-holding interests the opportunity to provide collective leadership in driving forward further improvements in the time ahead.
