Omagh District Council Chairperson Marty McColgan has said that the £134 million announced today by Education Minister John O'Dowd for school improvements, including the Loreto Grammar locally, will not only help develop the school estate but will also act as an injection of confidence into the local construction industry.

Councillor McColgan said,

"The announcement today by Education Minister John O'Dowd that £134m will be made available for school improvements, in schools right across the North is to be welcomed.

"Locally, the Loreto Grammar School will benefit from the school improvements. While the Minister has stated his long term commitment to the Lisanelly Shared Education campus, it's important in the meantime that pupils are taught in a safe, secure and fit for purpose building."

"Since taking on the portfolio of Education Sinn Féin has targeted money to improving the school estate and today's announcement is another sign of the commitment in transforming every sustainable school into a place fit for educating our children in the 21st century."

"Not only will it help improve the school estate but it will also give the local construction industry a boost as it has suffered severely in the recession."
