Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle has welcomed news from OFMdFM that funding has been announced for the first projects within the Social Investment Fund (SIF) programme. £33million will be invested in 12 capital projects and 11 revenue projects, aimed at tackling poverty and deprivation through improved community based services and facilities.
Ms Boyle sits on the SIF Western Steering Group and is pleased to announce that 3 projects within the Western zone have been selected.
£2.2million of funding will go to the 'Work Ready West' project, £1.35million to Surestart and £865,000 to Fermanagh House.
Welcoming the news Michaela Boyle said;
"I am delighted to hear the announcement on SIF this week. Through the steering groups local people have identified and prioritised the areas of need to ensure the maximum impact.
This is only the start and I am confident this funding will enable groups to deliver real benefits for people on the ground. I envisage that the Strabane District will benefit greatly from this funding.
The funding will result in jobs, training and improved facilities for many of the hardest hit areas of our community.
SIF was established to help communities tackle poverty, deprivation and dereliction, increase services and build pathways to employment. I commend the First Ministers and everyone involved in this process for ensuring that this vision becomes a reality."
