Sinn Féin Councillor Brian Mc Mahon says that the white line protest held in Sion on Saturday highlighted the extent of local opposition to the proposed development of an Anaerobic Digester at the Mill site in the village.

Cllr Mc Mahon, who attended the protest along with other local Sinn Fein Councillors in support of local residents in their objections to the proposed facility said,

"I would like to pay tribute to Sion Mills Community Forum for organizing this protest and by doing so giving an opportunity for local people to highlight the extent of opposition there is to locating this facility in the village because of the wide variety of environmental and pollutant implications and risk factors involved not only for the site and its immediate vicinity but for the people of the village as a whole.

"It is crucial that that the Planning Appeals Commission takes due cognisance of the overwhelming body of evidence which points to just how unsuited a facility of this nature would be for this location in Sion Mills and move as quickly as possible to refuse this application. ENDS
