Sinn Féin Omagh District Councillor Marty McColgan has welcomed the announcement by the Department of Regional Development that car parks operated by the department will have reduced rates over the Christmas period.
Speaking following the announcement councillor Marty McColgan said:
"I welcome the announcement of a reduction in Car Parking fees for Omagh in the run up to Christmas. The reduction will see shoppers avail of 5 hours of parking for just £1 in car parks operated by DRD Roads Service.
"I know that the DRD Committee in Stormont, of which local MLA Declan McAleer is a member, had urged the minister to implement such a move to help promote town centres throughout the north at this time and I am glad that he has agreed with the agreement put forward.
"This is undoubtedly good news for retailers and shoppers alike in the Omagh area. It is a common sense approach which will help promote vibrant town centres in the run up to the festive period and will additionally help support small, independent retailers and businesses, many of whom who are entering their busiest time of the year.
