West Tyrone Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Storey must protect interests of pupils, not his personal agenda - Boyle

West Tyrone MLA Michaela Boyle has responded to yesterday's announcement by the DUP's Mervyn Storey that he will veto any possibility of releasing extra money for schools.

Following Minister O'Dowd's comments that he may ask Executive colleagues for additional funds for our local schools, the DUP's Mervyn Storey announced that the DUP will oppose any moves for additional funding.

Ms Boyle said:

"As Chair of the Education Committee, Mervyn Storey should be actively supporting the Minister in any future request for additional funding from his Executive colleagues.

"I am alarmed that the Chair of the Committee would act in such a partisan fashion - he should remember that the educational well-being and aspiration of our young people are paramount in the Committee's undertakings.

"Instead of coming forward with ideas and a vision for the future, the DUP prefer to announce what they are opposed to, what plans they will veto.

"Unfortunately for the public this won't bring prosperity, this won't bring equality, and it will never bring an end to educational underachievement."
