Strabane Sinn Féin Councillor Brian Mc Mahon says the community pedestrian bridge over the River Mourne in the town is now firmly back on track with confirmation from the Department of Social Development that it has allocated £2.1m towards the long awaited project.

Cllr Mc Mahon who is Chair of the Council's Development Committee said,

"Much work has went in to the getting the funding in place once again following the withdrawal of previous funding streams for this long-awaited project and last night, at Council, the fruit of these efforts were evidenced through the receipt of official confirmation from DSD that it has allocated £2.1m towards developing this vital link between the Ballycolman and east bank of the town.

"As with all budget allocations of this nature, the £2.1 allocation has now to be cleared by the Assembly's Department of Finance and Personnel and with a projected timescale of 4 weeks for this process to be completed, Council will be seeking to move to the construction phase and completion as quickly as practically possible.
