Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has welcomed the announcement that preliminary work on phase one of the Lisanelly Shared Education Campus is scheduled to begin on-site in the autumn.

The news comes with the approval of the business case which will see phase one of this major investment move into the procurement and construction phase. This will involve site clearance work commencing in the autumn with the construction of the new Arvalee School and Resource Centre commencing next year.

Speaking following the announcement by Education Minister John ODowd local MLA Declan McAleer said:

"I welcome the announcement from the minister that work on the Lisanelly site will begin in the autumn. It will signify a tangible advancement on the whole Lisanelly project. It is my understanding that after the clearance of the site is completed the Arvalee School will then be built, estimated for the summer of 2014.

"The Lisanelly Campus, remains a top priority for Omagh and indeed West Tyrone and this is underlined by the £14 million being spent by the Department of Education over the next number of years to deliver phase one of the project. I am glad that we are at this stage of the process and am looking forward to progress being made on the site so that local pupils and schools can benefit from state of the art, modern post primary education facilities in Omagh.
