Sympathy extended to Kincaid family

Published: 23 July, 2013

Sinn Féin councillor Maolíosa Mc Hugh has extended his sympathy to the family of James Kincaid who tragically lost his life after he and another man got into difficulties in the Strule river at Newtownstewart on Saturday. "I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family of James Kincaid on their tragic loss. The tragedy has shocked the entire local community and everyones thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time. I also wish the other man who was rescued a full recovery and would like to pay tribute to the ambulance personnel and other emergency services for their valiant efforts during this tragic incident . "Given that the this stretch of the Strule is widely used by the local community as a social amenity and particularly in times of good weather, I will be requesting , within Strabane District Council, that avenues are explored to provide a number of life saving measures along the banks of this stretch. "The large number of drowning tragedies since the beginning of the heat wave has once again highlighted the dangers of entering undesignated areas of water such as rivers or quarries and I would re-enforce the widespread appeals that have been made to stay well clear of them.
