The Sinn Féin Chair of Strabane District Council Cllr Ruairí Mc Hugh has extended hearty congratulations to everyone involved in the Tyrone County Fleadh which took place in Castlederg from Thursday 27 June until Sunday 30 June, he said

'' I would like to offer my congratulations to all those who were involved in making the Tyrone Fleadh such a resounding success. I think everyone would agree that the town of Castlederg had a real feel good factor about it over the course of the Fleadh. From the quiz which kicked off the events on the Thursday night, the opening event, the concerts, competitions, pub and street music sessions, right through to the Fleadh parade and the Céili which concluded the Fleadh on the Sunday night was enjoyed whole heartedly by the entire community.

' Everyone I have spoken to are telling me how much they enjoyed the whole experience and that the Fleadh was exactly what Castlederg needed, even one person said to me they wish this could happen every weekend!

' I had the opportunity to meet a lot of musicians and visitors from other parts of Tyrone and beyond, they were very impressed by not just the town as a venue, but also the warm welcome they received from the people of Castlederg'

' Our local businesses deserve special praise too because without their financial support the Fleadh would not have been able to happen and I am glad that our pubs and food outlets as well as local accommodation providers and other businesses received a much needed and well deserved boost'

Commenting on the work under taken to ensure a successful event Councillor Mc Hugh said,

' There was a lot of hard work in pereperation for the Fleadh being held in Castlederg by a lot of groups and individuals and they deserve all the plaudits that come their way. In particular I think the work and commitment by the local branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, AranDerg, deserves particular recognition and they can be very proud of themselves for ensuring the Fleadh was enjoyed by all sections of our community in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding.

' The Tyrone Fleadh has been a resounding success and I hope to see it come back to Castlederg in the near future or even an Ulster Fleadh, why not? the town is big enough to host it and the organisers have proven their ability to put on a good show, but for the mean time I think the main thing is that everything went well and we can all be proud of that.
Well done to all!''
