Sinn Féin Invest in Tyrone GAA Garvaghey Project

Published: 8 July, 2013

Sinn Féin ministers Caral Ni Chulin and Michelle O'Neill have paid a visit to Garvaghey to the Tyrone GAA Centre of Participation alongside Sinn Féin elected representatives and party activists from the area.

The site visit consisted of a tour of the building, pitches and facilities and a briefing from Tyrone County Chairperson Ciaran McLaughlin.

Both ministers found the site visit extremely useful as they got to witness first-hand what the funding had been used for.

Speaking after the visit Sinn Féin councillor and chair of Strabane DC Ruairi McHugh said,

"It was great to have Caral and Michelle with us today while visiting the new facilities at Garvaghey. The money which was invested by both their departments and the local councils demonstrates the efforts put into ensuring that rural inequalities are being properly addressed. The £1.5million from DCAL and DARD has been invested directly into the construction of a 3G pitch and has helped to contribute to other areas under construction.

This is an important centre for enhancing sports participation and excellence, social inclusion, outreach, education and cultural development.I would like to thank the officials from Tyrone GAA for providing us with a tour of the facilities. I have no doubt that Garvaghey will provide a long lasting legacy for the people of Tyrone and indeed across Ulster."
