High level of vigilance required following spate of car break-ins-Carlin

Strabane Sinn Fein Councillor Karina Carlin says that concern is growing locally that cars are being systematically targeted for robbery following reports that 6 cars alone in the one area of the town have been broken into.

She said,

"I was contacted by one resident of Laurel Drive who had his car broken into on Thursday night last. His car was locked at the time. While he said visible no damage was done, nor anything taken, he was alarmed when told by the PSNI that there had been 5 similar break-ins in the nearby Ballycolman Avenue and Ballycolman Estate.

"With this news coming on the back of reports of two cars being similarly broke into in the Carrick Strand area of the town the previous week, it is clear that an unscrupulous individual or individuals are systematically targeting cars with robbery the most likely motive.

"I would therefore appeal to all car owners throughout the town area to be extremely vigilant and in particular to ensure your car is locked at all times when not attended and if possible try and ensure it is parked in a secure and well lit area."
