Local Republicans gathered at Strathroy Republican monument on Saturday to mark the 97th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising. The monument was erected in 2005 by Ogra Shinn Fein and the Billy Reid Sinn Fein Cumann in memory of three IRA volunteers, Patrick Carty and Sean Loughran from Tyrone and Dermot Crowley from Cork who were killed in an accidental explosion not far from the monument on the 25th June 1973.

The Easter Wreath Laying ceremony was chaired by Omagh Town Sinn Fein Councillor Martin Mc Colgan, the Proclamation was read by Cllr Sorcha Mc Anespy, while Pól Turbitt read the Tyrone Brigade Roll of Honour.

Following a minutes silence and the laying of the wreaths, Caitlín Turbitt brought the proceedings to a close by singing Amhran na bhFiann.
