Published: 6 March, 2013

At a recent meeting of the Environment Committee of Strabane District Council, Derg Sinn Féin Councillor Ruairí Mc Hugh appealed for committee support in his request for the erection of a bus shelter at the new bus stop situated near the junction of the Erganagh Road and Strabane Road outside Castlederg. Speaking at the meeting Councillor Ruairí Mc Hugh said ' This bus stop was until recently an unofficial bus stop until concerned parents of local school children who travel from the Erganagh area to Omagh via Drumlegagh asked Ulsterbus to consider making it an official stop which thankfully Ulsterbus agreed to do and have recently erected an Ulsterbus sign there making it an official bus stop. "I would ask that Council support my request to have a bus shelter erected here in order to ensure the protection of school children from inclement weather as well as for obvious safety reasons. I would also ask that council write to road service to ask that they consider developing a lay by where parents can safely drop off and collect their children ' The request by Councillor Mc Hugh was unanimously supported subject to the necessary consultation.
