Mc Hugh urges vigilance after major spate of Donegal burglaries

Derg Sinn Féin Cllr Maolíosa Mc Hugh has urged people living in the throughout the border area to be vigilant after a major spate of aggravated burglaries and thefts on the Donegal side of the border.

He said,

"This major spate of burglaries and thefts in different parts of Donegal has included physical attacks against the elderly which have sickened and angered people the length and breadth of the country.

"Given that the low life elements involved in such attacks frequently move around from area to area in an effort to avoid detection and given that there is now a high level of public vigilance and Garda resources being targeted at detecting those responsible in our neighbouring country, I would urge people on the Tyrone side to now also up their vigilance.

"It is impossible to guard against the predatory opportunism and callousness of such roaming gangs all the time but taking some basic precautions, such as fully securing your property, may make it a less attractive proposition for these people. I would particularly encourage everyone to look out for your elderly neighbours who are the most vulnerable to the designs of these gangs."
