West Tyrone Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Responses sought to Public Consultation

Published: 10 December, 2012

Sinn Féin Omagh Town councillor Sorcha McAnespy has called upon local people to have their input into the 'Transforming Your Care' proposals which were put forward under the Compton review into Helath and Social Care, commissioned by DUP minister Edwin Poots.

Urging local response to the Public Consultation local Councillor Sorcha McAnespy explained:

"Its important that individuals and groups respond to these consultations to inform those making the decisions. It is often said that local people know best and certainly the local public feeling should be reflected to those making the decisions which will affect the health service for years to come.

"Within the document are proposals to remove acute psychiatric services from Omagh and transfer them to the site of the new hospital in Enniskillen. Certainly this is one of a number of proposals which we in Sinn Féin are unhappy with and we are in the process of our own response to the consultation outlining our opposition to such a relocation.

"Mental healthcare provision was such a big part of the new enhanced hospital in Omagh and certainly without its inclusion it leaves a huge question mark over the entire project. These proposals would essentially see the abandonment of phase two of the enhanced hospital in Omagh.

"The closing date for submission to the public consultations is Tuesday 15th January, these can be made by email to tycconsultation@hscni.net
