Wanton Vandalism in Carrickmore Condemned

Published: 2 November, 2012

Sinn Féin Mid Tyrone Councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald has slammed those behind the smashing of a number of windows in the canteen of the Dean Maguirc College in Carrickmore. The damage was discovered on Thursday morning. A number of glass window panes as well as glass door panels had been smashed.

Branding the damage as 'wanton vandalism' local councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald added:

"I would condemn those behind this vandalism. It has done nothing but left the local school with a costly bill to foot. The School has been at the heart of the Mid Tyrone Community for over 45 years and is an important and well respected community facility. This attack is being seen by local people as an attack on the whole community. Indeed local people are very angry that the school has been attacked in this way.

"It would appear that this damage was caused over the Halloween period, which passed relatively quietly, thanks to the efforts of local people who took to the streets of Carrickmore ensuring a quiet and trouble free night for businesses and residents in the town centre. This attack has highlighted the need to take a similar approach over the Halloween period to protect such buildings in future years.

"I would call for the small minority of people involved in this wanton vandalism to reflect on their actions and desist from such anti community behaviour.CRÍOCH
