Traffic Accident highlights danger of road

Published: 15 May, 2012

Councillor Ann Quinn has extended her best wishes to a lorry driver who was hospitalised as a result of a road traffic collision just outside Dromore on Tuesday afternoon. She also said her thoughts are with the local farmer who was also involved in the accident on the A32 Dromore to Irvinestown road. The Crash, which happened not too far from Councillor Quinns home, involved a local man driving a Tractor and a man driving a lorry believed to be from Derry.

Speaking Councillor Quinn said

"Thankfully on this occasion no one has lost their lives on this stretch of road. It does however highlight the danger posed by this particular road. The road conditions at the time of the accident would have been poor, given that there had been intermittent rain throughout the day. This would have left the road wet and slippery.

"I want to extend my best wishes to the two people involved in the accident and wish them a speedy recovery. I would also like to praise the Fire Brigade and Ambulance service personnel who were on the scene within a very short time of the accident.

"Whilst major works have taken place on a section further up the A32 in recent times a lot more investment would be needed to bring this up to a safer standard. Particularly with the Enniskillen Hospital opening in the not too distant future there will be an increased level of traffic on the road and driver safety should be paramount.
