Shock following 'critical' accident

Published: 6 March, 2012

Omagh Town Sinn Féin councillor Sean Begley has said there is widespread shock after a pedestrian was knocked down on Sedan Avenue on Tuesday afternoon. It is understood the 40 year old female pedestrian was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital where her condition was described as 'critical'.

Speaking following the accident councillor Begley said:

"I want first of all to extend my thoughts to the women involved in the accident and her family and wish her a speedy recovery. There is considerable shock in the local area at this terrible accident. Whilst details are still unclear this is a particularly busy road in Omagh, and at the time of the accident it would have seen a large volume of traffic on the road. There are obvious safety concerns arising from this terrible accident which must be addressed including the issue of pedestrian safety on this stretch of road. Unfortunately this accident is one of a number in the Omagh District in recent weeks and I would urge caution amongst drivers throughout the district to drive with due care.CRÍOCH
