Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Michaela Boyle has asked Translink to examine the case for establishing a direct bus service between Strabane and Altnagelvin hospital during a meeting held with senior company officials at its Bradley Way facility in the town last Friday.

She said,

"It is a logistical and time consuming ordeal for the many people who have to travel by bus from Strabane to Altnagelvin hospital on a daily or frequent basis- with passengers having firstly to go to the Foyle Street Depot in Derry and then having to wait to get the connecting service to Altnagelvin and the same on the return journey.

"Having talked to Easy Lift Community Transport personnel and to passengers who use the current Translink service to the hospital from the town, I feel that the critical mass of passengers exists to make a direct service from the town to Altnagelvin viable and particularly so a return service to facilitate passengers for the standard visiting hours at the hospital in the afternoon and evening.

"I am heartened that the senior Translink officials did not dismiss the request and have undertaken to examine the potential of establishing a direct service from the town to the hospital. ENDS
