Anger at 'Fly-tipping' at Strabane Cemetery

Published: 2 January, 2012

Strabane Sinn Féin Councillor Jay Mc Cauley has described a major incident of Fly

tipping at Strabane Cemetery over Christmas as a totally insensitive act which

distressed and angered people visiting the graves of loved ones.

After liasing with the Technical Services Department of Strabane District Council

Councillor Mc Cauley ensured that the rubbish was cleared but he hit out at who-ever

was responsible saying:

"Given the quantity and nature of the rubbish dumped at the graveyard, it could only

have been transported there by a vehicle. People visiting the graves of loved ones

were distressed and angered that anyone could have been so insensitive and

disrespectful to do such a thing.

"Given that the rubbish was transported and dumped there on the 28th December, a

day that the Council dump itself was open, it makes matters even worse.

"I would like to applaud the actions of Council Technical Services staff who ensured,

upon being contacted, that the rubbish was promptly cleared away thus avoiding it

being dispersed onto graves throughout the cemetery. ENDS
