Right turning lane improves safety at Creggan Crossroads - Fitzgerald

Published: 16 November, 2011

Sinn Fein Mid Tyrone councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald has welcomed the recent completion of a right turning lane to Carrickmore at Creggan Cross roads by DRD Roads Service. She said the completion of the right turning lane would improve safety on the main road which has a large volume of traffic on a daily basis.

Cllr Fitzgerald was speaking after local councillors met with representatives from the roads service on Monday evening. Speaking following the meeting the local councillor said:

"I welcome the recent completion of the right turning lane off the main Omagh to Cookstwon road at Creggan crossroads. The lane will service traffic traveling in the direction of Carrickmore. Given that the road is the main link between Omagh and Cookstown it deals with a large volume of traffic daily. This junction has been particularly hazardous in the past with a number of accidents at the junction.

"With the new road layout it is hoped that such instances can be avoided in the future and that road safety is improved at this junction.
