Call for action on flooded road

Published: 11 October, 2011

Sinn Féin councillor Peter Kelly has said action must be taken to minimise flooding on the Galbally road; the main Dromore to Trillick road. He was speaking after extensive flooding on the road following heavy rain during the early part of this week. The local councillor said there was an ongoing problem with drainage in the area but the recent weather has exacerbated the situation. He called upon DRD Roads Service to work to ensure that such a reoccurrence is avoided.

Speaking the local councillor said:

"Having been contacted by several constituents regarding this issue I have written to DRD Roads Service to highlight this ongoing issue. The road was effectively closed off on Monday for most of the day without diversions being put in place. Having visited the location after receiving complaints I couldn't drive through the water given its depth and had to take another back road to make my way around the blocked road. I also know my council colleague councillor Ann Quinn has received a large number of calls regarding the situation.

"Whilst on this particular occasion we experienced a large rainfall in a number of hours this problem has been persistent over a considerable period. It is clear that remedial action should be carried out on this road to avoid a further reoccurrence of this problem. I hope that DRD Roads Service agree with my assessment on this issue and will look favourably upon my request for remedial action.
