Fitzgerald welcomes new safety features

Sinn Fein mid Tyrone councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald has welcomed the installation of new safety measures around the Dean Maguirc College. The fixtures, part of the safer routes to school programme will become fully functional upon the resumption of the school term in September. The signs incorporate a school warning sign which will be accompanied by flashing lights. Speaking following the completion of their installation local Sinn Fein councillor Anne Marie Fitzgerald said: 'The installation of these safety features on the roads approaching the Dean Maguirc College will only serve to enhance safety around the school. 'These signs are a part of the Safer routes to school programme which has seen similar safety features installed outside various schools throughout the district. It is my understanding that these signs will have flashing lights during school time to alert motorists that they are approaching a school. There will also be more viable markings to ensure motorists are cautious whilst approaching the school. 'These measures must be welcomed. There are a large number of pupils from the locality who walk to the school on a daily basis and these measures will hopefully ensure their safety whilst travelling to school as well as enhancing security for all those who use and work in the school.
